About Empty Space Productions

Empty Space Productions is a creative film collective founded by Maryam Raz and Salvatore Esposito, united by a shared belief: the heart of filmmaking lies in poetry and presence.

Whether in documentary or narrative form, our stories resist rigid formats. We listen deeply, capture essence, and aren’t afraid to blend media to express truth more fully. For us, filmmaking is about witnessing and feeling, about stepping into the quiet, chaotic, beautiful spaces people carry within them. Every frame is an attempt to hold that space open long enough for something real to emerge.

We work across genres and geographies, always drawn to what’s personal, political, and under-told.

After all, there is no such thing as an empty space.

Salvatore Esposito is a cinematographer and visual storyteller. With roots in analogue and digital photography, printing, and deep experience as a director of photography, he has worked across news, feature documentaries, and hybrid narratives. Salvatore’s cinematography is grounded in empathy, ethics, and a painterly approach to light. His immersive, tactile style reflects a background in fine art photography and a deep interest in underrepresented voices. He has collaborated on numerous documentaries, shorts, and experimental films across Europe and the UK, bringing a meditative and instinctual perspective to each project.

Maryam and Salvatore’s works have been screened and recognised globally; their documentary Matera Traveller was nominated at the AIBs (International Media Excellence Awards) in 2020.
